John Robertson names the Hearts ace ‘on fire’ right now and another who could play ‘big part’ in home straight
Despite the lack of activity, the Hearts legend is a fan of one piece of transfer business and names a star who is ready to become a vital player.
As the Jambos make progress in the Hunting Cup, John Robertson has given three Hearts players favorable evaluations.
Prior to Monday night’s Scottish Cup last-16 match against St Mirren, the Tynecastle legend was chatting over a few members of Neil Critchley’s team. Hearts’ return to the European football scene is a result of the head coach winning Manager of the Month for the team’s strong league play.
James Penrice has been a vital member of the team since joining last summer. In the midst of outstanding left-back performances, Robertson couldn’t help but recommend Penrice for some recognition during the Player of the Season debate that erupted on Sportsound over the weekend, complete with shoutouts for players from other clubs.
“Hard to disagree with that one,” he said in response to being asked what his Player of the Season was. I’ve made a list of some. Hibs has greatly benefited from Nicky Cadden’s excellent play. In addition to having a fantastic season, James Penrice at Hearts has developed a strong working relationship with Blair Spittal. He’s done incredibly well.
The subject of whether Elton Kabangu would be considered if he were to be asked the same question at the end of the season was then put to Robertson. He arrived during the winter transfer window and has since become a focal point for Neil Critchley’s team.
Then there’s Calem Nieuwenhof, who hasn’t played in nearly a year but is expected to make a strong comeback, according to the club legend. To which Robertson replied: “It might. He’s on fire right now.
“When he scored a few goals in the first game up at Brechin, you might be wondering, ‘Well, it’s just Brechin, what is he like?'” He got a double against Dundee last week, and he’s been playing pretty well so far. He might be, in my opinion.
You are trying to find players who will start right away during the transfer window. Undoubtedly, Hearts will do so and will search for other players, including Calem Nieuwenhof, who is recovering from an injury. He might play an important role.
